I'm Back - Calling All Curly girls!

Image
Hey Everyone! I am back with a hair tutorial. For the last month or so I have been diligently working on my naturally curly hair.  Let me tell you - patience is one of the most important parts - along with good product and techniques of course. Ok so how do you know if you have curly or wavy hair. One thing you can do is let your hair air dry. What is it doing? Is there a bend in the hair? Does it dry frizzy or poofy? You may even notice different curl or wave patterns throughout your hair.  My hair had all the factors!  First thing I did was figure out what my hair needed or what my concerns were that needed to be addressed. Was it dry? Was it limp? Did I need Hydration? So I knew that I wanted to tackle the frizz -  I started in the shower with my shampoo and conditioner. I am currently using a smoothing shampoo & smoothing deep conditioner. I also use a clarifying shampoo & scalp scrub once in a while to deep clean my hair and scalp. Next I wanted to tackle the dryness. I hi

Importance of Heat Protection with Hot Tools

Image
Today I wanted to share the importance of heat protectant with hot tools! I love to flat iron, curl, blow dry...all the things! But I can't stress this enough, you NEED to be using quality hot tools along with a good heat protectant.  Ok, so what happens if you are using cheap tools & no protection? It will cause damage to your hair. You will start to see  your will dry out and split with damage all  along the hair shaft  Your hair contains keratin proteins and hydrogen bonds. When you use heat styling tools, such as curling irons, flat irons, wavers or blow dryers, they strip your hair of its natural oils and proteins by breaking down its hydrogen bonds. This breaking down of hydrogen bonds is the same reason your heat styling tools are able to give you the look you want. They change your hair texture in order to achieve straightness, curliness or sleekness.  This is why it is so important to be mindful about which tools you are using and how you are protecting

Tips for Easy Summer Beach Waves

Image
Summer is here and so is the heat! This summer I plan on giving my hair a bit of a break from the hot tools. With the summer heat I don't feel like sitting there to blow dry and flat iron my hair because..well..its just to hot! An easy solution? Beach waves! I also have some natural waves & curl in my hair so fighting the humidity in the summer time is no fun! I give  myself a hair masque treatment once a week to keep my hair hydrated. This is key when letting your hair go more natural because dry hair become frizzy.  I use a wide tooth comb in the shower, when I have the hair masque or conditioner in my hair I gently comb starting at the bottom working my way to the roots. This also will ensure that the product is being distributed evenly through out your hair. Once out of the shower I use a microfiber towel to absorb some of  the water. Next I scrunch in MONATs Frizz Fix Primer to help with any frizz and its great for when it is humid outside! Next I use a Leave- in

Simple and chic braided headband

I love an easy hairstyle that’s quick to do and works for any occasion. That’s what this one is! I started with my hair being curled with a 1 inch curling wand to give my hair a soft wave and bend. This way it’s a bit more ‘fancy’ but you can certainly do this with straight hair as well. Grab a section of hair about an inch in thickness from behind your ear and do a 3 strand braid, Just slide a bobby pin onto the end to hold the braid while you do the same on the other side. Once you have both braids done, bring them up and over your head pinning them on the opposite side. Viola! Your done, doesn’t get any easier. You can also pancake the braids out to give them a fuller look. I hope you enjoyed this quick tutorial.

Why I Decided To Start My Shampoo Buisness

Image
I wanted to write this blog post to share how I got started with my shampoo business.  As a hairstylist my income is solely made when a client is physically sitting in my chair. It’s reliant on my clients showing up, as well as myself!  As a mom it’s always been a struggle with putting in more hours in the salon to keep up or being present for my kids. I was looking for flexibility so I could be more available for my kids, especially now that they are getting involved with different activities, while still bringing in a steady source of income.  After hearing about these products, I decided to try them out and completely loved my results! That’s when I knew I had to be apart of this company & share them with my clients.  I started to learn everything I could about the products & company. I started seeing what this could do for my family. I could gain flexibility & time freedom while taking a step back in the salon when my kids needed me too, all while still bringing in som

Braided Bun Updo Tutorial

This hair style is nice and simple once you break it down. All you need it a clear elastic, comb, a few bobby pins and your favourite hairspray! First add a bit of teasing through out your crown, if you like more volume or height feel free to do more teasing than what I have done in the video. Make a parting from the top of your head down to the top of your ear clipping forward that section of hair. Do the same on the other side. Now pull back the crown section of your hair, pushing it up slightly and pinning into place. Grab a small section of hair and bring it across the middle section that you have just pinned. Do the same on the other side. Grabbing all of the hair that left down, make it into a loose braid securing it with a clear elastic. Pancake (pull the braid sections out a bit) the braid to make it wider and more full. Roll the braid up toward your head making it into a bun, securing it with bobby pins, Curl the front sections of hair that you had pinned forward in t

Must- have hair products for the summertime

Oh the sun! We love it in the summer and pray for it in the winter...and springtime here in Ontario. As much as we love the sunshine and laying out all day in the sun, it is important that we protect our hair and scalp. Not only is the sun damaging to our hair in the summertime, so is the lake or ocean depending on where you live. Pool water will also dry out and even fade your colour treated hair. Before heading out into the sun this summer pick products that have a SPF in it for extra protection. A hair oil is also a good idea for after a day on the beach/pool to add some nutrients back into your hair and scalp. Washing your hair after being in the pool all day is another great idea to get rid of all the chemicals or salt off your hair and scalp. Using an Air Dry Cream in your hair after for a quick wash & go style that doesn't require the use of hot tools to give your hair a bit of a break. If you are someone who likes to use hot tools often, make sure you are using a hea
